1. If I am looking for a particular line item "Uni-Struts" on the Quantity Worksheet, is there a search tool for words, so I don't have to look extensively throughout the data base to locate?
2. And in the pattern search, are we going to be able to do searches on several pages at once? It would be great to search 2 pages of Interior Elevations for all the Tile..or paint etc.

We'll look into better indexing of the help. In version 2.5 we added searching to the help system. But to be honest, I searched on "save quantity worksheet" and it wasn't easy to find the correct topic.

The quantity worksheet doesn't match Excel's capability (and probably never will). If you want that capability, you might consider using the Excel Add-in. You can dynamically link measurements and/or quantity worksheet cells to an Excel sprecadsheet. The Premier version of eTakeoff that you have includes the eTakeoff Add-in for Excel.

Saving Quanity worksheets- I had a heck of a time figuring out how to save quanity worksheets-An index search on help for the word "Save" did not yeild the anticipated results. I know now that they can be saved in part or in totality, but I had to call David to figue it out. A search under "Quantity worksheets" also failed to yeild a direct path to how to save a worksheet. Perhaps you could make finding the information about saving and creating worksheets more context sensative in the help menu. I also spent good deal of time trying to create a second worksheet in a job file before I figured out that only one could be created per jobfile.

As someone who has worked with Lotus or Excel spreadsheets in estimating since the 80s, my tendency is to think that the quanity worksheets behave like spreadsheets and that I should be able to open a second tab/sheet in the same file, however, QW don't follow the same rules. As a programmer, I assume that you do not have the same preconceptions/biases, but I am certain that a number of your users share my detrimental "Excel Intuition". This Spreadsheet bias unfortunatly heightens the learning curve for people with Spreadsheet experience. I can offer no suggestions how to mitigate the problem. I only wanted to share my experience and observations and see if others share them. And,if my experience is pervasive across your pool of users, perhaps being mindful of this tendency will help improve the product in some way.

Welcome to the eTakeoff Forum. We created this site to interact more closely with our users and the construction industry. Anyone is welcome to browse the forum anonymously. If you wish to start a topic or comment on one, you’ll need to become a member. All that means is you provide a name and email address. We send you a password (which you can change). Requiring membership is intended to keep out spammers and other troublemakers. We won’t use your membership information for any other purpose. You don’t need to be an eTakeoff user to join the forum.

The “General” forum is intended for any topics of interest to the construction industry and specifically on the use of electronic plans. We’ll also post administrative topics there (such as this one).

The “Where Do You Get Drawings” forum is intended for discussions about drawing sources and using them. If you use a planroom that isn’t integrated with eTakeoff, you can request that integration here. If others reinforce the request, that may encourage the planroom to add integration. This is also a good place to discuss how you use specific planrooms and what you like or don’t like about them. Planroom operators are free to respond as long as they identify themselves.

The support forum is intended to work much like the FAQs on the eTakeoff web site. But in the forum, the topics can be initiated by users or potential users. Our support staff will respond to any posting, but anyone is welcome to chime in.

The “Enhancements” forum is intended for topics regarding future features in eTakeoff products. We’ll use this to describe features we’ve added or intend to add but we don’t want to use it for promotion. We hope to receive input on where users would like to see our products go. Criticizing our products is legitimate but we encourage you to offer suggestions at the same time.

Feel free to suggest any other forums you’d like to see.

Finally, we ask you to keep your postings courteous and respectful. Disagree and debate all you want but let’s keep it professional. We reserve the right to drop members for rude behavior but we hope we never have to.

Now, just click on the eTakeoff logo in the heading or "ETAKEOFF FORUM" in the breadcrumbs to vist the forum's home page.
