Frequently, both in lumber and concrete estimates, I have wanted a way to count items based on an area takeoff given an OC spacing and a direction; and, in the case of concrete, for instance, rebar that goes in different directions with two different OC spacings. Is this possible?
A way to count items from an area takeoff

I do this with an Excel spreadsheet with some very convoluted Hlookup and Vlookup functions (it worked much cleaner in Lotus). It doesn't give you a count, but it will calulate tonnage, based on SF of wall or slab, for any combination of bar sizes and spacing from #3 to #10 bar and spacings from 1" to 24" Post your email and I'll send you a copy.

Thank you. I look forward to seeing this . . .Posted 1 year ago # -
We could do something like this with logic similar to the Roll Extension logic. It's designed to calculate the feet of rolled material covering an aera. But if you set the roll width to the OC distance, it the linear feet of material would be the same as the total beam or rebar length.
You might try playing with roll extensions and see what enhancements it would need to handle this example.
