   We are a general contractor and I do estimates following the MasterFormat.

   At times we will work on multiples tenders at the same week.

   I have setup my layers to follow the divisions 2 to 16 as the MasterFormat ranging from siteworks, metals, wood, mechanical & electrical. My standard traces are setup in layers as well. Every traces were assigned one layer (e.g. if it's carpentry, it's assigned to layer "Div 6 - Wood").

   The Standard Traces are set globally across all projects I do. So I want to use Bid Codes to distinguish different projects. I was thinking of having a different set of bid codes per project. One project with "Job 1 - townhouse Plan A, Job 1 - townhouse plan B", another project with "Job 2 - Single family home, Job 2 - Multifamily", etc...

   Both projects have common layers (namely carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc... that was setup in the standard traces). Can I on the fly select which bid code to use when I select the traces I was to takeoff? or do I have to hard code it into the standard traces?

   Please help.

   Wayne - You can hard code them and/or choose as you go. Create a 2 column list in Excel for your Bid Codes. 1st column is the code, 2nd column is the code description (without headers). Select both columns and then copy. Open eTakeoff and select "Options/Edit Standard Bide Codes" and then click the "Paste" button. That will paste your Bid Code list into eTakeoff. The list will be available in each trace/measurement. Take your measurement and then right click and select "Edit Trace". At the bottom of the "Edit Takeoff Trace" window will be the "Bid Code" field. Click the button to the right that has the three litle dots on it and it will display your entire Bid Code list (the one pasted in above) for you to choose which code you want for this measurment.

   Thanks for the information.

   In the next update, is it possible to add a drop down menu to select the bid code I want to use for the next series for measurements and so all the measurements that I take will be assigned to that bid code? Until I select the next bid code.

   As your suggestion above, I have to assign the bid code for everyone of them one by one.

   It would be more efficient if it's similar to AutoCAD's drop down menus where I can select the current layer and all the lines, arcs, circle etc that I draw will be assigned to that current layer.
