Did you know there are nearly 30 shortcut keys available in eTakeoff? These keys match the commonly-used toolbar and context menu options. When taking off measurements, using the shortcut key is much faster than moving the mouse cursor to the toolbar and back, or right-clicking and finding the command in the context menu. Most of the keys don’t require holding the Shift or Ctrl keys so you can press them with one hand while operating the mouse with your other hand. For example, when measuring, you can press the “N” key to start a new measurement.
The best way to learn the shortcuts is one at a time. When you find yourself frequently using the same command, look up the shortcut key and start using it. Over time, you’ll build your knowledge and increase your efficiency.
The shortcut keys are described in the eTakeoff documentation. Select “Main Window” from the “Overview” section in the Contents or look for “Shortcut Keys” in the Index.
If you want the keys in a separate document, there are two available.
- The Short List gives you all the keys in a one page table organized by the command description. You may want to print this out and keep it handy.
- The Extended Description gives a more complete description of each command organized by the shortcut key.
